Why does Northauditor only list licensed casinos?

Only operators with a verified provincial licence appear here. That licence must come from a Canadian provincial gaming regulator.

In Ontario, offering online casino games without provincial authorization is illegal under the Criminal Code. Players aren't prosecuted in practice, but they have no protection: an unlicensed site can refuse to pay your winnings and you have no recourse. Every operator here appears on its regulator's official list: iGaming Ontario in Ontario, AGLC in Alberta.

Provincial licence
Authorization granted by a provincial gaming regulator, such as the AGCO in Ontario, allowing an operator to offer real-money online casino games within that province's borders.
Geolocation enforcement
Software that verifies a player is physically located inside a regulated province before allowing any real-money wager. Required in Ontario and Alberta.
iGaming Ontario operating agreement
A contractual framework between iGO and a licensed operator that allows the operator to offer real-money online gaming products to Ontarians under the conduct and management model.

Which real-money gaming platforms are authorized in Canada?

Two provinces allow private real-money online casinos. Ontario opened its market in April 2022 through iGaming Ontario. Alberta followed on July 13, 2026.

Geolocation checks confirm you're physically inside Ontario or Alberta.

Alberta FAQ
How do I verify an Alberta operator is registered?Check the operator against the AGLC gaming registrants list, under the "iGaming – Operator" class. AGLC publishes no licence number, so the register entry itself is the proof.
What is the minimum age in Alberta?18, one year younger than in Ontario. Some operators set a higher bar: Caesars requires 21 or older on its three Alberta platforms.
How does Ontario's centralized self-exclusion registry work?BetGuard, at betguard.ca, launched in May 2026. One registration blocks account access, new sign-ups and marketing across every regulated online gambling site in Ontario. Anyone 19 or older can register, for six months, one year, five years or a custom term. Operators must still run their own self-exclusion tools alongside it.
General online casino FAQ
What is the minimum age to play for real money in Canada? The minimum age is 19 in most provinces. It's 18 in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec.
Do I need to live in the province to play? No. Your physical location at the time of play is what matters. You must be inside the province's borders.
How do I confirm my operator holds a valid licence? Each card opens a record that links to the regulator's official list: the iGaming Ontario directory for Ontario, the AGLC registrant list for Alberta. Check the operator's name there.
What happens if I cross a provincial border mid-session?Geolocation software detects the change and immediately suspends real-money wagering.

How to check an online casino: FAQ
What are provincial inducement and advertising rules?Canadian provincial regulators apply restrictions on how operators may market to players. Since Ontario's market opened in April 2022, the AGCO Registrar's Standards for Internet Gaming have barred operators from advertising "bonuses," "free play" or other financial inducements to play in any general-audience advertising, including television, radio, billboards, search ads and unsolicited communications. Such inducement messaging is permitted only on the operator's own website, mobile app and direct marketing channels to consenting registered players who have explicitly opted in. Since February 28, 2024, the standards also ban active and retired athletes from igaming advertising, along with celebrities likely to appeal to minors. AGLC adopted a comparable framework at Alberta's launch on July 13, 2026.
